New Addiction; The Office

I always seem to fall into tv shows a long time after everyone else. My latest addiction comes from the U.S Office. It's one of those shows that has always been around; one that I've always heard about but never really watched. Then, as always, summer started and all the shows that are currently being made disappear for a few month.

I'm really enjoying the writing in The Office. It has everything; a crazy sitcom comedy side, a heart-warming side and relationships that everyone wants to succeed. Their way of telling stories really deepens the characters. The office politics takes center stage. These are the in your face story lines of what is happening in Dunder Mifflin Paper Company everyday. However, the beauty of the show is how it integrates the stories of the workers. It builds their history, their relationships and their personalities by a line here or there throughout the episodes. You casually pick up on Merediths problem with alcohol, Kevin's gambling issue and in the beginning it was the simple lines between Angela and Dwight that tipped you off to their relationship.

The moments that happen away from the camera are brought in so fluently and effortlessly. This display that it is an exceptionally written mockumentary. A number of the cast are both writers, producers and directors for the show. They clearly know their characters and what works best for them. With it's large fan base and having come to an end this year, I can imagine it staying as popular as the likes of Friends.
